Custom Tool Help

Designing on the Back

On the top menu bar, right next to the t-shirt icon, "rotate" is showcased. Clicking this will switch the apparel over to its backside. Once your product turns over, you can use the navigation buttons featuring add art or add text to design your product. To switch back to the front, simply re-click "rotate".

Keep in mind, there are some specialty items that do not allow for the back to be printed and will not flip to the backside.

ADD ART TOOL

Finding the Right Clip art

Navigate through our art library, organized by categories and subcategories to choose your clip art. We have an extensive list of thousands of clip art images at your disposal. General Categories include:Transportation, Seasons/Weather, Holidays, Buildings, Military, Earth, Food/Drink, Events, Animals, Occupations, People, Plants, Shapes/Symbols, Sports/Athletics, Music, Back to School. Narrow down your search by choosing the general category then make headway to the subcategories, where it is more specified. You should be able to find the perfect image to make your design stand out!

Uploading your Own Image

If our clip art selection wasn't enough, our users have the option of uploading their own images. Whether you use an art from the internet or a family photograph, we CAN and WILL make it work on your apparel.

Once you click on "ADD ART", you will see the option to "upload file". Click this link and it will take you to the window seen to the right. From here, browse your computer for the image and upload to the server. For successful transfer, please make sure your image is in one of the following file formats:

GIF, BMP, PNG, TIF, JPG, EPS, AI**,  and PSD**.

If your image is in a different file format then the ones listed above, utilize one of your image saving programs on your computer as they most likely list one of these file types as an option. You can also call one of 1800Clothes team members to reformat it for you.

If it doesn’t upload, try reducing the image size and then proceed.  If it comes out blurry, or causes any problems, please call one of our customer service representatives. Our talented artists can touch-up any low-resolution images to ensure your apparel will delight!

Adjusting Size of Image

To modify the image size to your own specifications, first insert your image onto the garment. Once placed, click on the image where a blue square/rectangular box will surround the clip art to show that it is highlighted as seen on the right. To adjust the sizing, use the bounding box offered on all four corners of the highlighted blue box.

We also feature the middle bounding boxes with the intention of giving you a little more control over the shaping of the image but using them may alter the overall dimension of the image.

Editing Colors of Image

All clip art images that contain one color can be changed. Simply look to the left of the garment, where the "edit colors" button is located, as seen below. The 48 colors on the menu will provide you with more than enough options for your design. However, if you need an exact color, choose the color that closely resembles yours so you can continue designing and highlight the issue in the notes box on the payment page when you check out. You will have a chance to review again before your order goes into production.

Color Recommendations: When designing on a light color shirt, limit yourself from using lighter colors for your art. The same way, on darker colored garments, refrain from using darker inks such as maroon or dark green. These colors may look great in the design tool but it may be tough for other people to appreciate your customized design from a distance. Contrast help colors stand out giving it the POP factor! If we think your art has a better color combination when we review your order, we will share our recommendations/suggestions. We just want your customized apparel to delight!

Rotating Image

The rotation feature listed on the bottom half of the add art menu shown here, gives the user 360 degree control over the image direction. Simply press UP or DOWN to angle the image to your specifications. The rotate tool goes from 180 degrees to the left and 180 degrees to the right adding another dimension to your design!

Centering your Design

Using the object alignment feature, as shown here, will allow you to strategically place your image where you want. You can place it to the left, middle, or right. If it doesn't align perfectly, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. If we see you made an attempt to align properly, we will correct it before sending you a proof.

Putting a Layer on Top of Another

Combining two different pieces of art or applying text on top of an image are quite common. To apply a layer on top of another, simply click the layer you would like to control so it is highlighted by the blue bounding boxes. From there, locate the "Layer Order" feature on the bottom of the menu bar. Here, you can press the arrow up/+ to insert highlighted image as the top layer or click the arrow down/- button to place as the bottom layer.

ADD TEXT TOOL

Adding Text

Once you click "Add Text" you will see a small window box appear to your right where you can insert your text as seen to the right. From here, just below the window box where your new text appears, is a button that says "add text". Click this to view text on your garment. At this point, you can choose the font styles, colors, spacing, curves, and size of the text.

Font Styles

If one clicks the edit font button as shown on image, our users can toggle between all the fonts listed on our custom tool.

Choosing a Font Color

Just below the font styles menu, there is a button labeled "edit color" which opens up a small box showcasing all the color options for your text. You can toggle between 48 choices and preview on your apparel before confirming your choice.

If you have a specific color you need, simply choose the most comparable match so you can continue with your design. On the payment page, there is a design notes section so you can specify what you want. Again, you will be emailed a proof before your order goes to the printer so you can double check your design.

Font Spacing, Size, Curve, & Rotate

These four features are listed in order just to the left of your garment. Here, you can make all the adjustments and stylize your text. Go crazy customizing and let your imagination do the rest! The t-shirt or garment will impress!
